Swinton Lock Activity Centre is a trusted safe space, committed to delivering emotional, social and wellbeing services, which are community led.
We are based adjacent to the South Yorkshire Navigational Canal and own two narrow boats, one of which is fully accessible. Both boats are used to offer boat-handling courses, volunteering opportunities and pleasure trips to both children and adults.
What we Do
Swinton Lock Activity Centre provides an extensive range of activities and support for both young and old.
Room Hire
Our location, facilities and ample parking also make Swinton Lock an ideal location for meetings, conferences and parties.
Boat Trips & Training
Join our experienced crew for a relaxing cruise along the canal. Learn how to skipper the boat and manage locks.
Open Days
We also hold regular open days where you can come to meet the staff and sample many of the activities we have to offer.
📢Available for anyone in need right now 📢 a perfect prep machine and a sealed formula canister. Its use by date is end of November.
Collection is the Lock Center. Call us on 01709 578778, to arrange pick up.

Today we are paying tribute to Dame Esther Rantzen, who passed away yesterday aged 86.
We were lucky enough to have her visit our centre a few years back. She will be remembered as a journalist, a television presenter and a fierce campaigner- but her legacy reaches far beyond that.
Dame Esther Rantzen was the founder for Childline and The Silver Line. The list of her charitable contributions and involvement is lengthy; 55 charities as a president or vice president.
There’s not many people quite like her around, but her legacy will live on forever!

We are honoured to have been picked by Swinton Academy as part of their sponsored work. We would like to wish all the teams- students and staff- the best of luck.
A great example of community spirit and what better way to teach young people about contributing to their community than to have them walking through it!
For any of our supporters who would like to sponsor one of the teams, the link in the post below. Swinton Lock is yellow! But the other teams have very worthy causes as benefactors.
#sponsored #localcharities #swintonlock #swintonacademy #rotherhamToday is the day! ✨✨✨
Please continue to donate to these 4 wonderful charities and keep a look out for our students today as we undertake our first ever sponsored walk.
Make sure to give us a wave as we pass! 💪👣

🎃TRICK OR TREAT!? 💀
It’s that time again, where the staff and volunteers at the Lock get their spooky costumes on and deck out the boat and the centre in its finest cobwebs.
Our community boat trips are going on sale TOMORROW! For £5 per person, you’ll get to cruise down the canal and back, taking in the sights of the canal, all from the comfort of our widebeam boat.
Our boat is specially adapted for wheelchair users- take a look at the pinned reel on our page, to see what adaptions we have made and how they work.
Our crew and staff will be wearing fun, spooky costumes and the boat will be decorated too- to add some Halloween magic.
If you have any questions, please drop us a comment below or call us on 01709 578778.
Tickets are available from our website,
Www.Swintonlock.org
Click the menu tab and select ‘what’s on’. Here you’ll find the list of available dates and times. The booking form is here, where you’ll be taken through to a payment page.
Tickets are limited, with each boat having a capacity of only 12 passengers. Please ensure all members of your booking party have a ticket- including babies in arms or carriers. We cannot allow any additional passengers to board the boat without a ticket- this is for insurance purposes.
Please also note that tickets are only available from our website. We have in the past had people selling fake tickets. To protect our customers and the community, we ask that you do not sell on your tickets without first confirming with us.
Thank you 😊
